PCB chief summons ex-cricketers to take ‘important suggestions

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has summoned former cricketers to take important suggestions on matters related to domestic cricket, sources told Geo News on Saturday.

Naqvi is sending for the ex-cricketers for the first time as he is dedicated to improve domestic cricket and make it more attractive. He has called Inzamam-ul-Haq, Moin Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Younis Khan, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed and Waqar Younis.

The goal is to minimise the difference between international and domestic cricket for which, the PCB would conduct separate tournaments of First Class, One Day and T20 in the name of Champions Cup.

Five teams will participate in the elite T20, ODI and First Class tournaments and a total of 150 top cricketers, who will be selected based on their performances, will be divided into squads of 30. There will also be no ODI tournament for regional teams except the proposed one.

The board further plans to rope in five high-profile crickets for the project to attract sponsors for new teams.

The PCB is also in the final stages of finalising the policy for domestic contracts. As of now, it is proposed that the players who will participate in the Champions Cup across all three formats will be given the contracts. The projected number of players who will be getting the contract is 150.

It is worth mentioning that this meeting has nothing to do with the affairs of the Pakistan cricket team however, valuable suggestions will not be ignored.

Naqvi had earlier stated that he was in touch with former cricketers and taking their advice for the betterment of cricket.

He also stated that he was in contact with those cricketers who want to improve cricket, and not those who are associated with channels.
