World Championship of Legends: Australia record one-sided win against South Africa

Australia recorded a one-sided victory against South Africa by 104 runs in the fifth match of the World Championship of Legends 2024 in Birmingham.

For South Africa, only three of their batters — Neil McKenzie (33 off 24), JP Duminy (12 off 6) and Ryan McLaren (35 off 30) — scored in double digits as the rest of the batting lineup failed.

Names like Jacques Kallis (6), Richard Levi (0), and Ashwell Prince (9) all failed as the Australian bowlers were at the top.

Xavier Doherty and Nathan Coulter-Nile bagged three each, Brett Lee picked two while Daniel Christian got one wicket.

Earlier in the first innings, an all-round batting display by Australian batters helped them put 230 in 20 overs.

Australia started with a blast as they scored 85 in the first seven overs before losing Aaron Finch for 49 runs. Shaun Marsh too missed his half-century by just one run as he lost his wicket to JP Duminy.

Ben Dunk continued the charge as he scored a 21-ball 47-run innings with five fours and three sixes.

Callum Ferguson (1) and Daniel Christian (2) were the only Aussie batters who failed to score in double digits.

Down the order, Ben Cutting and Tim Paine powered Australia to a 230-run total. The former played a blistering knock of 38 runs on just 17 balls while the latter contributed 34 runs on 21 balls.

For South Africa, Ryan McLaren picked three, Duminy two while Vernor Philander, Charl Langeveldt and Dale Steyn got one each.
